New warriors #4 review

and after a long time since my last review we are back with the new warrirors and introduced with PSIONEX!

the cover is exagerating the amount of action but yeah it sums up what happens.adn marvel is introduced to psionex one of a big number of villians that haven't done much but are a good idea that could be used more but like so many other great ideas marvel has done nothing with them. lets actually talk about the issue.
so leaving off from the last issue they are infultrating gene-tech the guys who last issue sent mad thinker to study the new warriors. the warriors are now trying to find out what gene-techs end game is with them.
once inside they realize that their blue print of the place are wrong. at which point they are ambushed.

so they are shown the face of the guy who captured them. old dude who basically jealous that everyone else got powers since ww2. characters like this are annoying to me there people who are introduced and then its explained that they'd been in the background of everything just one second from being amazing.yup you sure taught reed Richards every thing he knows , worked with Tony Starks dad and was almost a super soldier but we never heard of you. ignoring past history in comics? must be a brian michael bendis.

The rest of the issue is simple, Speedball comes in frees the new warriors after a lot of explaing happens. a lot. you know that old cliche of the villian not killing the hero and instead start to rant about there plan? well this issue takes it above and beyond because this guy explains his origins and then takes credit for the first issues terrax attack and finally introducing Psionex as their creations.these are the dudes who knocked out the warriors

. and then big superhero\villian fight.

now that the warriors are prepared they promptly kick there ass.
also note that the most mysterious member of Psionex, mathmanic is knocked out first. the guy who can apperatly use math to make holes in a gaint brick wall isnt used.

 how in the fuck (add confused face)? he use math to make some one feel distance but nope no more of that, what the actual fuck
psionex promptly get their ass's kicked one member even seemingly dies.heroes!

 and then the new warriors agree to keep doing what their doing. and gentech agrees to be less corrupt.
all in all this issue is harmless fun, it introduces the generitc villian team that is supposted to be their antithesis
(ie: their dark avengers, injustice league.) we get some very good action scenes beautiflly drawn ,we learn about terrex's ressurection in issue one and learn about the evil orgnaization that is trying to kidnap or abouse teen metahumans powers. i dont even want to rate this but if i was forced to i would say its a good with a possible total of very good.
 and now that i think about it the current "new 52" teen titians run has that exact plot (dont quote me on this i havent read that book since issue 4) maybe its just great minds thinking alike or possibly someone over in dc was a new warriors fan? or more lilkely superheroes and evil corperations are really easy plots that sell books.

really, greg land ?

i was reading all the original sin tie in books and when i was reading mighty avengers 10 i noticed this little nod to the "what if" comic series. I also noticed that all these, once again Greg land just traced these various "what if" covers. and this is so exact that he didn't even bother to make a new rock monster next to the Jane foster he just moved one that was lower on her page, or change pym's head to be more proportional. it could be argued that he was saving time but it just seems a bit disingenuous, i know it shouldn't surprise me that he would do something like this but it is.

 so here is the spider-gwen done. just did a few changes and erased the pencil lines. hopefully ill be able to sell this , also i want to make prints of this is the future.

sketchbook figure stuff from today

so today i was going through my current sketchbook and doing some character stuff and figure stuff and marker stuff. i'm trying to get some design's on paper for characters that i've been thinking about. hopefully i'll use my character eventually. and soon i'll get illustrater and photoshop to do some digital work.also now i'll be uploading more sketchbook stuff because i don't think it is as bad as past work.

Bat as Letterform, classwork

for this project I had to make an animal out of the letters of its name while using an appropiriate font. so this is a bat in snell roundhouse. i made this in like 2 hours in Typography class today. i had done another one last class but i really hated it so i re did it as a different font that worked better. second project in this class and i like how it came out,. ill make sure to update with more class projects

music tuesday: mc chris- cookie breath

you may recognize mc chris's voice from adult swim shows like sealab 2021 and aqua teen hunger force. if you didn't know he is also a rapper under the name mc chris. and though he denies it i catagorize him as nerdcore, though i geuss he does that to try to be perfesonal or something. anyways today for music tuesday i picked an older song of his from 2003 cookie breath. the song has a simple catchy beat with lyrics talking about unrequited love, nothing to amazing but great junkfood music. this is a good jumping off point if you haven't heard his music. other song of his that i would suggest are nerd girl and hoodie ninja, there'e basically the greatest hits but you gotta start somewhere.

this isn't really groot's end but a possible future. he is on top of Franklin Richards spaceship, time thing. i guess they are buddies in the future. a good end to old tree man who definitely needs some rest after guarding the galaxy for so long.

music tuesday. the breeders- divine hammer

today i picked a song that i have loved forever divine hammer by the breeders. also i picked this particular performance for a few reasons. i really liked this version cus afterwards they do some talking to a young conan o brien, its kinda trippy how different he doesn't look. also i like this live performances cus shit happens and its funny how they react. if you notice carefully one of the guitar strings breaks in the middle of the song and you can see them laugh about it while performing.

also if you like this lead singer she also does lead vocals for gigantic by the pixies, another great song

captain cold

i have a huge strech of time between my classes so i inked this captain cold sketch that i drew a while back. i drew it cus a freind of mind thought the flash's villians looked silly and i wanted to redesign them to look more modern. then like a week later the flash episode with captain cold came out. so late to the party but whatever i like it. i whish that i did the guns a differnt way though cus the cold gun design could be made more intemedating. 

    got to also use a bic fine point pen to do this which has a cool look. 

Things in comics i like

I love the idea that in comics the title character fight all these world destroying threats but when they talk to other heroes they are like "who?"

music tuesday: the muffs - really really happy

the track for this week is the muffs with their song really really happy. i got into this band last year and now love them. this is actually the first song i heard of theirs, downloaded it years ago from demonoid (wow remember that) but only last year did i think to look for more of their songs. now so many of their songs have become a staple in my spotify playlist but before it was only this song.
   this song is a good start because it is a good example of the general energy that they have which is a lot. this is just a fun smile song about not giving a fuck, also bonus points for an entertaining video.
   if you want some recommendations for other songs of theirs i suggest "oh nina", "big mouth", "on and on", "from your girl"

draw it again : the scarlet spider

so i started this in 2011 and today i was sorta bummed and looked through my old notebook, decieding to do this years version real quick right now.i like that i am getting better at this art thing. just got to get better at digital art. thats a story for another day....

i think the biggest difference between these different versions is that the proportions are even i can pose the character in a way that is more natural. i like the progress that i've made and should stop getting down on myself because i'm still growing.

love syndicate of dreamworld

so i drew this the second to last day of my chicano studies class. a little doodle of part of the love syndicate of dreamland, an alternate justice league. i think grant morrison is bringing them back so i wanted to draw them. but these are only sketches of two of them cus i kinda forgot how they looked. a nice version with all members ,including speed freak, will come.

good music tuesday: fishboy: i'm a ghost

so i haven't done good music Tuesday since like 2010 but i want to bring it back because it kept me writing something even if it wasn't much.
   today i want to feature a band that got into last year and that has recently released a new album. which i haven't pick up yet but will when i got more money. but it doesn't matter because here is one of the songs from the new record, I'm a ghost. i love this song it's very danceable and is catchy as fuck. also huge bonus, this song and the entire album incidentally are about the elephant that Thomas Edison electrocuted. the record even comes with a comic drawn by the band to accompany the music. that is dedication that you don't see in music anymore and the reason i want to acknowledge this record and song. this is a band that has consistently made songs about weird subjects fun. i also appreciate the narrative of each record because if you listen in order it tells a story. that is not to say that each song can't be enjoyed on their own because they totally can. personally my favorite song is parachute (which I've just linked to) but these new songs still are undeniably fishboy but i with enough difference to tell it apart from other records of theirs.

nextwave sketch and update

so I've been sinkering with sketchs for the captain from the wonderful warren ellis book nextwave. originally i was going to do each character seperate but I think i'm going to make one big team shot poster to scan and digitaly color. so that is what i'm doing since saturday. will be posting a lot more now i promise.
    i wanted to do some reviews for book series' I love and want to post art to show how much i've grown as an artist.

   so expect redraws of old art pieces from my deviantart. and the new warriors review that i wrote like a years ago but never uploaded the scans for.
   i don't expect many people to actually be reading this but this blog at one point was very therapeutic for young me and now that i'm older i want to make this a blog that people would want to visit more than once because i think i can manage that. if not, its still fun to write down my opnions somewhere.
