New warriors #4 review

and after a long time since my last review we are back with the new warrirors and introduced with PSIONEX!
the cover is exagerating the amount of action but yeah it sums up what happens.adn marvel is introduced to psionex one of a big number of villians that haven't done much but are a good idea that could be used more but like so many other great ideas marvel has done nothing with them. lets actually talk about the issue.
so leaving off from the last issue they are infultrating gene-tech the guys who last issue sent mad thinker to study the new warriors. the warriors are now trying to find out what gene-techs end game is with them.
once inside they realize that their blue print of the place are wrong. at which point they are ambushed.

a members of psionex do different things to them
so they are shown the face of the guy who captured them. old dude who basically jealous that everyone else got powers since ww2. characters like this are annoying to me there people who are introduced and then its explained that they'd been in the background of everything just one second from being amazing.yup you sure taught reed Richards every thing he knows , worked with Tony Starks dad and was almost a super soldier but we never heard of you. ignoring past history in comics? must be a brian michael bendis.
sorry that just gets to me.
The rest of the issue is simple, Speedball comes in frees the new warriors after a lot of explaing happens. a lot. you know that old cliche of the villian not killing the hero and instead start to rant about there plan? well this issue takes it above and beyond because this guy explains his origins and then takes credit for the first issues terrax attack and finally introducing Psionex as their creations.these are the dudes who knocked out the warriors
. and then big superhero\villian fight.

now that the warriors are prepared they promptly kick there ass.
also note that the most mysterious member of Psionex, mathmanic is knocked out first. the guy who can apperatly use math to make holes in a gaint brick wall isnt used.
how in the fuck (add confused face)? he use math to make some one feel distance but nope no more of that, what the actual fuck
psionex promptly get their ass's kicked one member even seemingly dies.heroes!
and then the new warriors agree to keep doing what their doing. and gentech agrees to be less corrupt.
all in all this issue is harmless fun, it introduces the generitc villian team that is supposted to be their antithesis
(ie: their dark avengers, injustice league.) we get some very good action scenes beautiflly drawn ,we learn about terrex's ressurection in issue one and learn about the evil orgnaization that is trying to kidnap or abouse teen metahumans powers. i dont even want to rate this but if i was forced to i would say its a good with a possible total of very good.
and now that i think about it the current "new 52" teen titians run has that exact plot (dont quote me on this i havent read that book since issue 4) maybe its just great minds thinking alike or possibly someone over in dc was a new warriors fan? or more lilkely superheroes and evil corperations are really easy plots that sell books.

new warriors # 3 review

I like that this issue for trys to shack some things up like how the story is told in the point of view the mad thinker. having a established narrator rather then a omnipresent third person is cool. they also get into the back story of the warriors which this book needed to do.

()the issue is mostly set up for later things and too officially bring them together and with the common mind set and goal of saving people. wish is cool there trying to bring newer readers up to speed and set up a major villain organization.the issue stars out at gentech which if you remember issue 1 are the guys who accidentally released Terrax from their soil decontaminater. they have hired the mad thinker and primus his trusty(pretty funny) android servant to find out what makes the new warriors powers work.

small side note though this is how they captured the scene for the first issue this is what actually happened

first they find namorita who is at her college being a hotty and about to take a dip in the pool but then the cafeteria food gets her! actually no she just swallowed primus(eww gross).

so mad thinker got what he needed so they tell her to meet them on Friday.then something wonderful happens to speedball that is rare in 90s comics honest character development! his parents are fighting which suck being caught in the middle of so he leaves. also in their fight is a bit of set up for a future plot. speed's mom is going on a environmental trip to Brazil with a group that later turns out to be evil, like everything else that's set up(somethings did surprise me).any way back to the story, mad thinker catches speed and doesn't do much beside tell him to meet him Friday.

oh to make a long story short this happens with every warrior. I'll just tell you what they were doing and skip to conclusion.night thrasher- talking to silhouette get assaulted and get the Friday invite, usual sitch.

nova- gets fired from mcdonalds, refuses to finish high school and quits gym. he also apperantly QUITS THE TEAM!!! wwwwhhhaaa? he must be serious and everybody should worry

firestar- uses powers to make breakfast (that is pretty awesome actually), drives dangerously to school with her friends who like to talk in weird sayings "35s for housewives 50 would be nifty!" seriously find me someone who says this, oh and this

marvel boy- vance's dad read his computer diary (dude should have a password) dads about to hit him for being a mutant, vance defends self (this also happens later but it doesn't end well).

and so finally it Friday and its time for the thinker to introduce himself to the warriors. But wait novas back! I was afraid he was actually gone for good I hope this is never brought up again. What was the point??

so some talking about how the warriors are the way of the future and how they have potential to do great things. At which point night thrasher be-heads him.

WAIT, WHAT!!! Okay don't worry it's just a robot. but still that's brutal. the android couldn't even tell it was a robot how did thrash know?! thats right he didn't but hes just that rad!night thrasher is hardcore!!!

as primus and mad thinker's head leave ( giving the warriors info on gentech) The new warriors contemplate their future. and they have come to an agreement (again) to fight the crime that the other heroes won't touch.

oh this issue compared to the previous issue is lightyears more awesome. the plot was simple nothing too crazy but at least if made sense. I also liked how the the story was told in the mad thinker's perspective ,nice change of pace. The issue try's to give insight into the minds of the characters and actually is able to flesh them out 4 out of 5.

next week get ready cause the warriors are gonna face their titans east, psionex

new warrior #2 review

this next issue is actually boring to me, the first one barley kept my attention even though it was just a basic team book. the problem was that they writing wasn't engaging i wasn't able to care about the characters. with could have worked in the 60's but they needed to catch up and give these characters some good backstories. this one actually is where we learn about night thrashers past.
the book starts with three cops getting killed by midnight fire. that's the guys name not what did the killing. this guy who has the ability to have a horrible name is the villain. while the team are training they get news of the dead cops who had a note on them that said "thrashed by the night", i wonder who they are trying to lore out.

we see Dwayne fighting crime a few months ago i guess he felt suspenders would protect him from the bullets flying at him. apparently the crime he helped stop was actually a double cross that midnights fire had been in the middle of stopping from the inside. god dammit he has a stupid name! and if they don't call him that they call him fire which is still stupid!

anyway, night thrasher, midnights fire and silhouette decide to fight crime together, this is the last time i mention their names! i swear. as night thrasher puts it they "thrashed"the gang operations.during this he was doing fire's sister sil.

apparently as they were trying to get a in with a new gang a cop spots them.

but seriously look at that they were begging to get caught, its the middle of the day and they are out in the open with assault rifles! there's even people all around them!
the consequence of their stupidity is that sil gets shoot up real bad and the gang guy and the cop dies. but in the eyes of midnights fire this is all night thrashers fault of course this reference makes sense cause they were on the streets when they were fighting!

then they go to china Town to fight fire's gang. then the story becomes a bad Saturday morning cartoon where the hero has to face his arch villain. thrash fights fire at first is losing but get the upper hand, but before he can kill him but then silhouette appears alive but not so well.

then the plot becomes stupid. because it comes to light that fire killed the cops so that no body would notice his warehouse stocked with huge illegal highly dangerous tech weapons.

okay now think about this he killed three cops so no one would come after him! that's like the opposite of what you are supposed to do! those he seriously think that no one would notice dead cops? even the start of the issue they make there plans clear kill cops and then use the weapons to "obscure my involvement". how does that work! i thought he wanted to keep these guns secret.so to keep them secret he has to start using them! the very noticeable and impossible to miss munition.

oh but it gets better fire's gang then threaten to fire their weapons into the crowd of people, yes the people they are apparently paid to protect and with the weapons that they were willing to kill to keep secret.

the warriors take out the weapons
Sil dis owns her brother and the warriors are left to wonder whether thrash would have killed fire if he wasn't talked down or not

.

so that was issue 2 and was it any better? no....no it fucking wasn't.
this plot is so bad i can't think anything else to say. the villian is bad, the the story is bad the hero is so bland that he could been replaced with any 90's anti hero, and the art felt rushed for some reason(the drug bust looked like day time!)
i hate giving any comic a low score but i have to 1 out of 5. you can easily skip this issue and you wouldn't have to worry about missing anything.

join me again next time as i review issue 3, stay tuned and spread the word thanks.

new warrior #1 review!! my first comic review!

the new warriors were at some point the next big thing. or maybe just marketing thing i don't know i wasn't around back then. but i can only assume that they tried to make a big deal about them just from the cover

THE NEW HEROES FOR THE 90's! popping out ripping through the number 1 issues of legendary book like x-men fantastic four and for some reason alpha flight. those this book warrant such claims as "the next generation of super hero excitement"? lets find out.

we open to page one and are introduced to night thrasher a new creation for this book who will act as team leader but at the moment it seems he's doing what any hero would do threaten someone with death, our honorable hero ladies and gentlemen. and in a extreme totally rad manner he drops the guy. but don't worry it turns out the guy was actually nova! thrash is lucking cause if rider's powers hadn't kicked in he would have one very dead teenage superhero. kind of a dick move but whatever I'm not the superhero.

now we see marvel boy who apparently is high up on the "boggle scale". also batman shirt in the corner. ) and so we see Vance(his real name) try to impress the avengers
,he does not. after cap tells him to take a hike night thrasher waves him down. i just think it funny that that how he is brought into the warriors the equivalent of "hey you! yeah you!,wanna join our vigilante group?"

then namorita is introduced she's a college student (weird for an atlantean) and is in queens with her class to ask questions about the contaminated ground and how genetech (evil big business) is gonna fix it.

we then see night thrasher's base of operation, a high rise in Manhattan. we also learn his backstory he's batman. only difference is he has a Asian lady and black dude as his alfreds. then thrash explains he hacked shield to find nova and marvel boy. they don't approve of this act of terrorism but its not like he is trying to get these total strangers to trust him so they can fight crime together.
he then calls firestar and threatens to reveal her alter ego to the world she doesn't take it well.

back in queens... genetech unwail there "ambient ionic energy locator and collator" or simply put a machine that cleans dirt. but it turns out environmentalism really doesn't work because Terrax (the ex- herald of Galactus) explodes out of the machine.

the boys are then greeted by a angry firestar
, but before anyone can be formally introduced there is an earthquake. all sighs point to queens so they head off but not before firestar says something clever!

namorita is get her ass whooped but is saved by "these brave new warriors who have burst onto the scene". speedball ditches his mom and decided to help.

meanwhile... the warriors are not doing well especially night thrasher whos plan was use skateboard and throw smoke pellets... nice job
speedball makes bad joke
marvel boy those this with him then this happens to terrax

then Dr. scientist explains "terrax was a disembodied sentient energy form that needed constant groundsoil replenishment". which means if he isn't on the ground he explodes.

the avengers come in to take the glory and the gathered heroes contemplate their futures. they decided to fight the crime the avengers never touch, so they join hands as THE FANTASTIC FOUR!.... I MEAN NEW WARRIORS.

but was it truly the beginning of a legend? not really i mean most remember them as the guys who started civil war.
this meant well and seemed to have the makings of something that could have been good but was stuck as a promotional tool for the decade never being more then a joke. the art was exceptional being drawn buy mark bagely who even the casual reader may know as the original artist for ultimate spiderman, the writing wasn't great but wasn't the worst just a bit corny filled to the brim with moldy jokes and dated references(fabian nicieza). a great effort i give it 3.5 out of 5.

stay tuned to this blog though because i will be going through each issue of the new warriors starting here at issue 1 too issue 50, those it get better? lets hope so this is the comicbook specialist and i hope to see you again.
